An Introduction to the Denver Scene
The music scene in Denver has always been blessed with great music and cursed with lack of attention, rooted mostly due to the isolated geography of the state and the complete lack of music industry in Colorado. All of the great touring jazz acts performed regularly in Denver's five points neighborhood at venues that would later turn into disco clubs in the 70s and punk clubs in the 80s. When rock 'n roll grabbed the attention of America, Denver was no exception to the craze. Although no Denver artists made it big in the 50s, there were plenty of cover bands galore on local radio and performing live around town. The label BAND BOX out of Denver released singles by some of these bands, as well as country acts and what could be called outsider music today.
